Artwork & Headway presents Art’s House
After playing at sell out gigs at SWG3 and the Sub Club in Glasgow this year, as well as holding down residencies at XOYO London and Pikes Ibiza over the summer, we thought it was about time we brought the notorious party starter Artwork to Headway for his Dundee debut where we’ll be leaving the man to his own devices all night long.

Reading Rooms Productions & Headway welcome back Gary Beck to the small town club for a full on Boxing Day techno fest!
As a regular fixture at the world’s top clubs and festivals, Glasgow born producer and DJ Gary Beck has long been established as a primary figure in techno.
Known and respected for his unique sound, he has gained support from the best names in the business and released music on some of the genre’s leading labels, institutions such as Drumcode, Cocoon and Saved as well as his own BEK Audio imprint.
Since his emergence onto the scene in 2007, Beck has accumulated an impressive list of achievements. Highlights include a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and a Boiler Room session, as well as numerous collaborations with similarly exceptional talents such as Green Velvet, Mark Broom and Speedy J. 2012 saw the release of his seminal debut album ‘Bring a Friend’ on the legendary Soma Records label.
The last few years have seen Gary Beck’s career trajectory continue to soar, with shows at renowned clubs such as Womb Tokyo, Fabric London, Awakenings, Output NYC, and Timewarp, to name a few. In addition to a packed performance schedule, Beck spends time as head of BEK Audio, an imprint which has quickly become one of the most revered techno labels on the scene.
After years of trying to make this happen, we’re delighted to announce that we will finally be welcoming Joy Orbison to Headway!
And to make it extra special, it will be an all night long set! 11pm – 3am!
Joy O’s brand of garage-house has been celebrated for finding a sound that marries elements of house, two-step, jungle, techno and dubstep. Alongside the release of the gargantuan “Hyph Mngo” (released on Hot Flush in late 2009) and material on his own imprint, Hinge Finger, notorious mixes for Radio 1 and Ministry have only served to cement Joy Orbison’s renown.
If you’ve caught him in the Slam Tent, the Riverside Festival or the Sub Club in recent years, you’ll know that his style will be perfectly suited to The Reading Rooms, and we can’t wait to bring him to Headway for his Dundee debut!

We are excited to announce that kicking off our first party after summer is Italian native but Berlin based project of Alessandro Fognini and Federico Fognini – Mind Against!
Coming from relative obscurity a couple of years ago to being voted 18th in the Resident Advisor Top 100 DJ Poll 2015, they have accelerated right to the frontline of the house and techno conversation, thanks to big room destroyers like ‘Several Times’, ‘Strange Days’, and recent collaboration with Tale of Us, ‘Astral’.
Having seen the guys smash the sold out Life and Death party at Off Sonar last year and the Sub Club this year, we can’t wait to welcome them to Headway for their Dundee debut!

For our 12th Birthday we are happy to announce that we have – in the words of the late, great John Peel – “The Baron of Techno” making his Headway and Reading Rooms debut – Dave Clarke!
Clarke plays out most weekends across Europe and the world. There’s the same attention to detail each time, his sets swooping whip-smart along the cutting blade of techno, backed up by a seasoned bag of DJ tricks in which his early hip hop roots clearly show. Clarke blends into the background upon arrival and lets his music do the talking. That’s where he comes alive, where skills honed for years blow venues apart. It might seem from appearances that Clarke is not enjoying what he does but don’t let the grumpy image fool you. He loves every minute of it and feels humbled and blessed he’s able to do what he does.
Whether you’ve seen him in the Slam Tent at T In The Park in 2014 or at the recent sold out Pressure’s he’s headlined at, one thing is for sure, it’s going to be intense!

“The one thing I knew was that I wanted this record to be a trip. When I go out, I want to give myself up to music. That was the idea for the album.”
If the main motivation whilst making Drone Logic was to take the listener on a hi-fidelity trip for the duration of his debut album, then Daniel Avery emphatically succeeded. From Water Jump’s hypnotic pulse and punch through to the crystalline click of closer Knowing We’ll Be Here via the title track’s elemental acid swirl and New Energy’s take on Neon Lights relocated to a post-midnight cab ride through London, Avery’s debut pushed and pulled at the senses and blurred the boundaries between dancefloor and home listening experience. Released on Erol Alkan’s wildly psychedelic Phantasy label, reviews were unanimous in praise: “A mesmerising debut” (Mixmag); “In a league of its own” (NME); “Exceptional” (The Times); “One of the finest techno albums of the year” (The Quietus); “Underground dance music with this much ambition hasn’t been heard in quite a while” (Resident Advisor); “Avery owns this space” (Pitchfork); “A benchmark for so many other dance albums to aspire to” (Dummy).
Its success has been furthered by the fact that Drone Logic doesn’t really fit expected templates of what a dance record today should sound like. There are no set piece vocals; when voices emerge on tracks, they are invariably disembodied, odd. And as distortion whips across techno-based backing tracks, it splices modern club music with the kind of sounds that forward thinking guitar bands might conjure up. The result is wholly compelling, gloriously transcendent and one that immediately struck a chord with club DJs, from heads of state to the best of the new class.
Coming off the back of his massively lauded FABRICLIVE 66 compilation, many of Drone Logic’s first steps took place from the DJ booth out onto the dancefloor of that very London clubbing institution. Whilst Avery claims that his music is affected by every stop on a relentless tour schedule, one that earned him 32nd position in Resident Advisor’s DJs of 2014 poll, his debut was a record very much conceived in fabric. It seems natural, therefore, for his residency to be taken one step further with Divided Love, a quarterly curated night: “fabric is my home and I’m proud to be a resident; the club has been with me from the beginning. Divided Love is about presenting acts who are doing something special…sonic souls, faith affirmers, music for the mind…”
The night, now expanding across Europe and beyond, can be seen as a direct extension of Avery’s new radio show on another of the capital’s underground mainstays, Rinse FM. A chance to push mind-expanding sounds from a myriad of places beyond straightforward club music, it is another platform for Avery to “bring this music together. Something is happening at the moment.”
Culminating the cycle of Drone Logic, and as he begins work on his sophomore record, Daniel Avery expands on his wide reaching world with a carefully curated album of remixes from the artists with whom Avery’s forward facing electronic style shares the deepest affinity. New Energy [Collected Remixes] is an album featuring reworks from Rødhåd to KiNK, Factory Floor to Powell, Silent Servant to Roman Flügel, Perc to Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve and stands as a testament to the strength of the current state of affairs in electronic music, borne out of one of its most original talents.
Whatever happens next for Avery…that’s going to be the real trip.

We are excited to announce that we have Skream kicking off our 2016 parties with a 3 hour set!
One of dance music’s most influential and important figureheads, Skream was XOYO London’s first resident of 2015. Skream’s path through Clubland and its genres has taken him on an unexpected journey; from his beginnings at Big Apple Records to topping the charts as part of Magnetic Man and Radio 1 residencies, he’s the poster boy for contemporary British music.
In response to his success, Skream launched his Skreamizm tour to offer himself a change of pace from arena and festival performances, opting to play three-hour sets in small clubs, ditching the dubstep for disco, house, and techno in his sets. He has addressed the change in direction on his Twitter and in interviews, noting that he was inspired to do more varied sets by the likes of Jackmaster. He was subsequently voted 46th in the Resident Advisor Top 100 DJs of 2014 poll.
If you’ve managed to catch Skream at Pressure, Sub Club Soundsystem as part of JESuS (Jackmaster / Eats Everything / Skream & Seth Troxler) or EH1 this year, you’ll know that his style will be perfectly suited to The Reading Rooms, and we can’t wait to bring him to Headway for the first time!

Next up we are excited to bring Nonplus+ label boss Boddika to Headway for his Dundee debut!
With electronic music becoming more polished and quantized, Boddika’s hard hitting analogue sound has shaken the scene to its very core, slamming down with a raw take on things that’s making all who hear it take note. Harking the expansive sounds of Luke Vibert, the analogue programming of Juan Atkins early work, and the rawness of the Drexciya/Dopplereffekt family.
If you’ve caught Boddika at Pressure last year, at the Sub Club earlier this year when he literally brought part of the roof down, or even as recently as at Dimensions festival in Croatia last week, then you’ll know that his raw techno sound will go down perfectly at The Reading Rooms and we can’t wait!

Electro? Techno? Old? New? Al Green has a habit of both reinventing himself and pushing boundaries. As one half of Instra:mental he helped develop a diverse and unique sound that crossed a range of styles and tempos within the drum and bass / electronica sphere. Now as Boddika he has created a raw, energetic and driving persona that instantly garnered support from DJ’s as varied as Skream, Loefah, Dixon, Tale of Us, Cosmin TRG, DJ Stingray, Martyn, Pearson Sound, Ben UFO, Ryan Elliot, Joy Orbison, Scuba and Deetron.
Boddika is inspired by Machine Music and influenced by a range of genres from old school hip hop and electro to Chicago house and Detroit techno and even taking in a bit of 80’s / 90’s dance. To say Green’s influences are varied would be an understatement and that certainly shows in his current productions: in his own words “I just do what I feel like doing when I’m in the studio, and that’s where the music comes from”. In short: it sounds like absolutely nothing else.
As well as solo production Green is also now the sole owner at NonPlus – releasing artists such as Kassem Mosse, Skudge, Martyn, Basic Sole Unit, Endian and most recently Radio Slave as well as solo Boddika material. He is also the co owner alongside long term collaborator Joy Orbison of Sunklo where the duo have released four of their joint works to great acclaim. The labels and collaborations are yet more strings to his bow and mean that Green as Boddika wont be disappearing any time soon.
