You never know exactly what you’re going to hear with Jackmaster. The element of glorious surprise is crucial to his sets: from the lost Dance Mania gems he spends his time unearthing to the latest hip-hop & RnB tracks to straight-up house and techno sets, the Numbers co-founder has more options up his sleeve than just about any other DJ out there – and a rare knack for connecting seemingly disparate styles with each other. “I don’t do eclecticism just for eclecticism’s sake,” he states firmly.

What you are guaranteed to get is a master selector’s instinct for creating and riding the energy of a crowd: few can get a dancefloor as hyped as Jackmaster. “I don’t think about music in terms of genre, I think about it in terms of energy levels,” he says – and as his star has risen over the past few years, this has been on perfect display at parties from Glasgow to Berlin to New York, and from superclubs such as Berghain and Fabric to legendary underground warehouse raves. Throughout the first half of 2013 he will be hosting a monthly show on BBC Radio 1?s In New DJs We Trust series. He’s also proven that populist tendencies can have longevity, if done right: unbelievably, it’s now 10 years since the Numbers club night was founded, forging a tight-knit and loyal scene in which Jackmaster and like-minded Glaswegian’s could hone their skills. Now, the world can’t get enough of their sounds: the Numbers influence has spread across clubs and into the mainstream, with names such as Jessie Ware, SBTRKT, Rustie, Hudson Mohawke and Jamie xx all having released material with the label, and with Jackmaster hosting a monthly show as part of BBC Radio 1?s In New DJs We Trust 2013 series.

At the heart of Jackmaster’s wide-ranging sensibility is a fundamental honesty: he believes in neither following trends nor the concept of guilty pleasures. His commitment to both honesty and energy encapsulates what can make dance culture life-changingly thrilling: it’s about the clubber on the dancefloor reacting instantaneously and truthfully to the music. Few cater to that dancer as effectively as Jackmaster – no mere “crowd-pleaser”, but someone always guaranteed to please the crowd.

Alan Fitzpatrick tonight!

Looking like it’s gonna be some night tonight, if you haven’t managed to get a ticket in advance, there are more on the door!

Having enjoyed a rapid ascent through the ranks since his emergence as the new kid on the techno block in the latter half of 2008, Fitzpatrick now holds a high status as a universally respected and in-demand producer and DJ who has succeeded in carving out a recognizable musical niche for himself within the ever-expanding genre of techno. A seemingly unstoppable source of hit music, the momentum Fitzpatrick has generated is due in no small part to the impact his productions have had on DJs and the record buying pubic. Never was this more true than in 2012 when Alan’s studio output seemed to eclipse all those around him with his ‘Always Something For Nothing’ and ‘Skeksis’ tracks achieving the accolade of Beatport Techno number 1 sales positions, and in the process drawing high praise from his peers across the techno scene for the vibrancy, originality and inventiveness that has come to characterize Alan Fitzpatrick tracks.

Alan’s output for Drumcode in particular has worked to grow his reputation as a maturing and dynamic producer capable of bringing stylistic variety to his productions. The release of his ‘Life Through Different Eyes’ and ‘Skeksis’ EP’s powerfully demonstrated the range of Fitzpatrick’s inventiveness in the studio and showed there is no end in sight for the insight that inspires him to create universally popular techno records that stand out from the norm. Whether he is adding diva-like vocals to cavernous beat workouts (‘Always Something For Nothing’ / ‘Skeksis’) or fusing emotive chord sequences with his trademark heavy-funk sound (‘For An Endless Night’ / ‘Prometheus’) or showcasing his sound-defining ‘Shadows In The Dark’ album or collaborating with Adam Beyer on the hugely popular ‘Human Reason’ and ‘Memesis’, there is a uniqueness to Alan Fitzpatrick productions that ensures his star remains firmly on the rise. Elsewhere, Alan’s releases for Bedrock (‘Reflections’, ‘Moon Palace’ – which was awarded a BBC Radio 1 Essential New Tune) and his own 8 Sided Dice imprint have raised the UK producers profile to a level where his remix services are in high demand, being recruited by the likes of John Digweed, Adam Beyer, Slam, Ben Sims, Cari Lekebusch and Joey Beltram.

This same intuitive sense of what will move a crowd that so effectively inspires Fitzpatrick’s own productions has opened doors to Alan at a long list of high profile clubs across the globe and led to a coveted BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix in November 2011 that was met with an overwhelmingly positive reaction from old and new fans alike. Fans, who now can be counted in the tens of thousands, from all over the world, have witnessed Alan skills behind the decks as an increasingly busy and broad-ranging DJ diary sees Alan tour across Europe, North America, Asia and South America. 2012 brought debut tours to Argentina, Colombia, Japan, Singapore and Dubai while Alan cemented his place on the European circuit with guest appearances at headline events such as Carl Cox’s Revolution London, Global Gathering Ukraine and Hyperspace Budapest. Alan remains a core artist on Drumcode’s showcase events, including ADE and Miami conferences, where his trademark tough, hooky grooves and incendiary beats compliment the brands musical template. Away from the main room, 2013 will see Alan flex his after-hours muscles on a more regular basis via a series of shows with London’s long-established after-hours event, Jaded, where Alan will take on the role of resident, playing extended Sunday morning sets for the Jaded faithful in each quarter of 2013.

Since first appearing on Scotland’s seminal Soma label in 1998, DJ-production duo Craig Morrison and Graeme Reedie, aka Silicone Soul, have occupied a special place in the over-crowded field of electronic dance music, mainly through the depth and quality of their recordings plus innate understanding of music’s grand heritage and its constant development.

Silicone Soul is the perfect name to describe the way they cajole then sculpt every sonic ingredient from their machines with maximum care and emotion. They’ve always turned their heads away from vacuous trends to follow their passion and instincts, famously turning down Top Of The Pops for their 2001 top ten hit ‘Right On’ but happy in the knowledge that every single they release kicks off in the underground clubs; esoteric, melodically-textured and underpinned by a compulsive, euphoric throb harking back to the earliest days of disco. Over the course of four albums, the pair have turned the often tricky task of making a substantial electronic dance album into an art form, partly by remembering what made classic albums happen and last in the first place.

Craig and Graeme met at school but didn’t just rise from the rave, instead cutting their musical teeth on original punk ructions by The Stooges and MC5, while recognising the groundbreaking innovations of the Rolling Stones and soul pioneers such as Isaac Hayes and Curtis Mayfield (whose ‘Right On For The Darkness’ provided a blueprint for their ‘Right On 4 Tha Darkness’). In the late 80s-early 90s the duo became justifiably addicted to the interstellar, drugged-out soul of Primal Scream’s Screamadelica and its attendant Andrew Weatherall remixes. When they heard Slam’s Orde and Stuart venting such at the first night of their Soma club at Glasgow’s Arches, the potential and euphoria of electronic dance music drenched their musical ambitions, leading to them setting up their own independent record label called Depth Perception in late 1996 (which included an early song called ‘Silicone Soul’). These releases caught the ears of Soma supreme Dave Clarke and Slam, who had started Soma at the start of the decade and, even then were counted among the top UK dance labels with a formidable roster. An underlying punk ethic has always been at the heart of Slam and Soma, which was enough to convince Craig and Graeme that this was the right label for them.

Silicone Soul’s first Soma releases were ‘The Strip’ followed by ‘All Nite Long’ (their love of the Stones emerging in the title of third track,’ Midnite Rambler‘) in 1998, followed by ‘Right On 4 Tha Darkness’ in 1999 with further 12-inches including ‘Nosferatu’, ’The Answer’, ’Seven Day Weekend’, ‘Inferno’, ‘The Poisoner’s Diary’, ‘Under A Werewolf Moon’, ‘Damascene Moments’, ‘The Pact’, ‘The Snakecharmer’, ‘Bad Machines’ and ‘The Pulse’. Silicone Soul have released four critically acclaimed albums (All on Soma) …A Soul Thing [2000], Staring into Space [2005], Save Our Souls [2006] and Silicone Soul [2009].

Early on, each release became an event; guaranteed carnage at sweaty clubs and while the albums made headily compulsive home listening as panoramic visions in their own right. Their tracks could be deep and exotic or roof raising in wild pitch style, while the sense of infinite space betrayed their fixation with Temptations producer Norman Whitfield.

Having already established themselves as one of the most constantly surprising, thrilling and respected outfits in electronic dance music, Silicone Soul launched their alternative dream machine Darkroom Dubs in 2003 with ‘I Need To Freak’ under the pseudonym of Astrocats, but also needed this extra outlet to accommodate the new unknowns regularly winging their way and deserving of exposure. After scoring success in its first years with names such as Jet Project, Martinez, The Spirals, Anthony Collins and Mirror Music, more were added to the roster in 2008, when Darkroom Dubs underwent a revamp/relaunch, including Gary Beck and Sei A. More recent recruits include Of Norway, Freska, Klartraum, Jairo Catelo, Antonio Olivieri, Luc Ringeisen, Edu Imbernon Terje Saether, Kiki, Robag Wruhme and Alex Niggemann.

Silicone Soul also Dj extensively, leaving indelible footprints anywhere from Murmansk to Melbourne, while holding residences at Barcelona’s La Terrrazza, Antwerp’s Café D’Anvers and Pressure, Slam’s current club at The Arches where it all began.

In 2009, they received two nominations in DJ Mag’s Best Of British awards (Best Album, Best Producer). Their accompanying praise cited, ‘a name that encapsulates the marriage of the synthetic and the sincere at the heart of their music…not only one of Scotland’s most exciting and challenging dance acts, but Britain and beyond.’

2010 saw remix EP’s from their last Soma album and label compilation ‘Darkroom Dubs Volume 2 Complied & Mixed By Silicone Soul’, a second collection of exclusive, unreleased and favourite tracks from their label, which stands tall as one of the year’s best musical journeys. It was according to Craig, “A real snapshot of the label’s music, philosophy and intent.” A Mixmag Compilation of the Month. Even as I said so myself in DMC Update: “Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dubs imprint has long been the ultimate bastion of the deepest electronic dance music bathed in the aural anarchy of acid house and relentlessly jaw dropping in its output…”

In 2011, while becoming a mainstay of the UK’s most influential techno label culminating in their Dj mix compilation, ‘20 Years Of Soma Records’. They celebrated the 50th Darkroom Dubs release, headed by a full-pelt Silicone Soul behemoth called ‘Alive From The Opium Den‘, which could be the best excursion yet into the boys’ heliocentric world. Backed with the equally-hallucinogenic ‘Time Mariner‘s Mirrour‘.

There’s an emotional depth and subtle cinematic mischief running through Silicone Soul’s music of a sort rarely glimpsed in electronic dance music. They’ve never copied the afore-mentioned musical heroes, but that same indefinable spirit which drove them seems to have taken root in their creative juice dispenser, alive and knocking on house heaven’s door.

Pan-Pot
Biography

A ‘pan-pot’ is a simple, functional dial that governs the left and right axis of the stereo field, useful but unremarkable; mobilee’s Pan-Pot is an entirely different proposition, a duo whose mastery of audio principles allows them to turn conventions on their heads, casting functionality aside as they plumb the deep, uncharted depths of pitch-black techno.

Since their inception in 2005, Pan-Pot have become a dominant presence in modern techno, an ascent mirrored in the rise of their home label mobilee records to the top tier of electronic music. Tagging themselves as “the dark side of the force,” Pan-Pot have melted minds, warped perceptions and reinvigorated the dancefloor with their heady, unorthodox sound; within their work, subtle pitch manipulations square off with wall-of-sound distortion, the dark stomp of 4/4 is tamed by intricate sound design, and minimalistic frameworks duel with throbbing bass lines, epic builds, and murky, off-kilter melodies.

Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix met at Berlin’s SAE, and their studies in the production and manipulation of sound aided them in identifying Pan-Pot’s overarching sound aesthetic. The duo booked Anja Schneider for an ill-fated party in 2005, but the unfortunate circumstances helped forge a fortuitous connection with Schneider and her then-fledgling mobilee imprint. Within weeks, mobilee’s second ever release was Pan-Pot’s official debut, „Copy and Paste“. The steady stream of original tracks and remixes that followed on mobilee and Einmaleins, charted the duo’s unwavering commitment to precise, undulating and kinetic grooves. The defining moment of Pan-Pot’s career came in 2007 with the release of their debut artist album, Pan-O-Rama. The aptly named long-player offered a 360-degree view of techno at its most twisted, balancing somber atmospherics with a lightness of touch, and spawning the overground hit “Charly”. More recently “Confronted” and “Captain My Captain” have demonstrated their classic, strong and timely production style, presenting them as the most consistent purveyors of techno around.

Pan-Pot are ceaselessly working and endlessly inventive. When not in the studio writing original material or remixing tracks by a myriad of artists, they can be found on the road, touring. Their DJ sets reveal a keen understanding of the dancefloor’s needs, and they are unconstrained by boundaries, traversing techno, house and everything in between. Pan-Pot may have taken their name from an unexceptional element of studio equipment, but as with their music, they have rewritten notions of form and function through their own idiosyncratic language; once you’ve experienced Pan-Pot’s colossal, haunting soundscapes you will never forget them. Their vision, passion, and love of music continues to drive Pan-Pot — and the extended mobilee team —in all that they continue to do, and all that will come.

Strahil Velchev a.k.a KiNK is an innovative, uncompromising producer, captivating dj and live performer from Bulgaria, incorporating in his record the very best examples of the electronic music with a KiNK twist. In his early teenage years he was raving on acid, techno, proto-hardcore and jungle. At 20 he got his hands on one of the first modular software synthesizers. At 27 he got his first vinyl released and few years later everybody who dig deeper for quality electronic music had heard of him. There are a few things that shape Strahil’s accomplished sound: his patience and persistency in the studio, his long experience as a music listener, his love for the soul and the pristine sound of the old music and his passion for the futurism.

KiNK is a multi-style producer, but in 2005 his first vinyl release on Chris Duckenfield’s Odori imprint placed him firmly in the frame of house and techno. In 2008 Strahil proto-house music project with Neville Watson recieve a worldwide recognition through their releases on the Dutch imprint Hour House is Your Rush. In the following two years KiNK (solo and with Neville) produced music for high profile labels like Rush Hour, Ovum, Poker Flat, Systematic, Mule Musiq, Get Physical, liebe*detail and others. His music was played by almost every well known dj around the world. Strahil remixed important names on the electronic music scene like Hercules and Love Affair, Patrick Cowley, Marc Romboy and Blake Baxter, Riva Starr, Pete Tong and Dave Spoon, DJ T (just to name a few). KiNK`s production skills were noticed by the media and several interviews artist reviwes followed in places like Pete Tong`s show on BBC, Resident Advisor, DJ Magazine, De:Bug, Groove Magazine, Raveline and others. KiNK took the prestigious 20th position in the Resident Advisor chart „Top 100 charted artists in 2011″

Strahil used to perform as a dynamic and skillful DJ mainly for Bulgarian audience till 2009, when due to a higher demand by the international club scene he decided to take a new challenge: finding a way to play his own music live. The Bulgarian artist found his live setup as a mixture of dusty analog gadgets and modern digital technology. KiNK performs with his machines in the same way as he play records – he is fast, busy, he takes risks and he is pushing his tools to the limit. KiNK played as a dj and live at some of the best spots for underground dance music in Sofia, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Hannover, Vienna, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Turin, Bologna, Milano, London, Glasgow, Dublin, etc.

Now after series of successful records with his music, Strahil feels bigger artistic freedom and he is encouraged to push harder the musical barriers in 2011. KiNK`s release schedule includes an artist album for Ovum records, productions for Rush Hour, Liebe*Detail, Systematic and other friends of him.

Derrick Carter is widely acknowledged as one of the best DJs in the world. With innovative productions, flawless technical skills and an effortlessly joyful attitude of rocking a crowd, his influence has infiltrated throughout the spectrum of dance music.

Although known as one of the key players of Chicago’s house music wave in the ’90s, Derrick Carter began DJ’ing at the age of nine, spinning disco records at family reunions. Raised in the western suburbs, Derrick was into music from a young age; during his teens Chicago’s house scene sucked him in for good and before long he became a strong presence in the city’s underground dance scene. “When I got my driver’s license at 16 my sneak ability was validated,” he laughs. “I was a fierce bedroom jock for a long time. After you mix for the love of it for six or seven years, you get it pretty tight and you can take it on the road.”

He got by working at dance-music specialty stores like Gramaphone and gigging at parties, later landing regular DJ stints at Shelter, Foxy’s and Smart Bar. Though he doesn’t often spin locally, his unannounced appearances at friends’ parties leave people queuing around the block.

Derrick’s sets are rooted in house, but he freely travels outside conformative club tastes, seamlessly incorporating old-school disco, soul, jazz and whatever else catches his fancy to jack the beat and rock the party.

By refusing to accept conventional standards and instead choosing to simply do his own thing he has built a worldwide reputation as one of the underground pioneers, becoming a major celebrity among dance-music aficionados. “So many people come up to me and say, ‘Man, I had the worst day. My girlfriend left me, I locked my keys in my car, but you turned me for two hours, and that made me able to get up in the morning.’ That’s the best thing going.”

In 1988 Derrick, fellow DJ Mark Farina, and friend Chris Nazuka released an EP as the group Symbols & Instruments. The record had a strong influence on the burgeoning ambient techno movement in England. While it wasn’t a commercial success, it established Derrick as an international figure in the underground dance-music scene. Since then he’s been involved with a number of recording projects, firstly his solo project Sound Patrol under whom he released his first album ‘Sweetened -No Lemon’ which exuded a soulfulness and low-key grittiness that resonated beyond the infectious grooves and made a departure from the machine-like quality of the dance music fare of the time.

Since then the pioneering, innovative tracks and consequent critical acclaim have marked Derrick out as one of the most important players in dance music – most notably through his releases on Classic, the label he founded with Luke Solomon. Derrick’s first release was as Rednail with ‘I Think of You’, followed by ‘Nu Pschidt’ and ‘Hope’ under his own name. ‘Nü Pschidt’ combined woven scatting with sleepy minimal beats on ‘Dreaming Again’ and skillfully cast his own low, sexy drawl over his trademark Carter grooves to form ‘Boompty Boomp Theme’ – a name which has become synonymous with Derrick’s sound since his mom’s critique of his music reached the press!

Seminal EPs such as ‘Where U At?’ and albums ‘Squaredancing In A Round House’, alongside guest compilations for the best underground house labels have consolidated his standing as one of the legends of scene.

He can count on support from many of the biggest names in techno, including Pete Tong, Dubfire, Chris Liebing, Len Faki, Nic Fanciulli and Richie Hawtin.

His style can be heard on labels such as Saved, Soma, Electric Deluxe, Drumcode and his own imprint Bek Audio.

Gary’s career was given an early boost when Richie Hawtin signed his track ”Consumed” to the Minus label. From that point on, interest began to grow around this talented artist. Before long he was playing to crowds around Europe, South America and Asia. More recently his unique style has been appreciated in New York and further tours of America are in the pipeline.

Production wise, Gary has been enjoying success with Nic Fanciulli’s Saved label. Hits such as ”Say What” have been setting dancefloors alight around the world, however he also enjoys returning to his techno roots on labels such as Speedy J’s Electric Deluxe and Len Faki’s Figure.

Refusing to be caught up in the new wave of sync technology Gary prefers to work with turntables along with Traktor and controllers keeping the old and new school vibe alive.

Already booked for most of 2011 Gary looks to maintain the same level of consistency which has seen him gain many admirers around the world.
